The confidentiality of information held about people’s medical and personal histories was securely maintained throughout the home. The inspection took place on 30 August and 13 September 2017and was unannounced. Following the comprehensive inspection, the provider wrote to us to tell us how they would make the required improvements to meet the legal requirements. My Dad moved into Greenbanks in Nov 2015, he attended a day centre for several months and needed extra care & to be safe due to Alzheimer's, so we chose Greenbanks which is opposite the day centre. The staff are friendly and caring, the home is really open and you can visit at any time.

The programme is aimed at residents living with dementia, ranging from mild to moderate. Golden Memories uses a whole host of Watford FC memorabilia and magic moments to help stimulate the sense and evoke personal memories. Not only does the programme focus on reminiscence, but it also acts as a tool to reintroduce physical activity, whether that be chair exercises or even table football. People received personalised care and support that met their needs and took account of their preferences. Staff were knowledgeable about people’s background histories, preferences and routines. We found that the current activities programme could be further developed in order to ensure that people's individual interests were considered.

However, the CQC report said the home was not “proactive” in preventing these falls and failed to redeploy staff to minimise the chance of morning falls. The inspection of Greenbanks had been prompted by concerns about “managing risk” to residents and how the home’s registered manager responded to concerns highlighted by staff. Individuals that have been diagnosed with dementia and are no longer able to live independently at home due to requiring specialist 24-hour care services. During our inspection, we spoke with several people who use the service and two relatives. They were all complimentary about the care provided by the service, and the staff who cared for them.
People were supported to take their medicines safely and at the right time by trained staff where necessary and appropriate. Potential risks to people’s health and well-being were identified, reviewed and managed effectively. The Wellbeing Lead creates an effective and inclusive activity calendar, taking into account resident’s interests, feedback and their varying needs. This positively benefits every resident, including those receiving dementia care and residential care at varying levels. Staff made efforts to ascertain people’s wishes and obtain their verbal consent before providing personal care and support, which they did in a kind and compassionate way. Information about local advocacy services was available to help people and their family access independent advice or guidance.
